Assignment 1 - Movie Teaser Poster

We are to design a movie teaser poster base on our fictional film. The duration of this assignment is 3 week and we are to submit it by the 4th week.

On (30/8/2013, Friday), we are come out a synopsis of our story and to show Mr. Michael on (3/9/2013, Tuesday) for improvements and for approval. Mr. Michael have send us a 3 Act Structure Diagram to guide us in writing our story.

The story is base on any genre and the genre I choose is Horror, title "The Twins". We are to go to Mr. Michael to present our story for the movie teaser poster individually. Below is my story :)

The Twins

Genre: Horror

Characters: Kelly (David’s Daughter), David (Kelly’s Father), Daniel (David’s Brother), Christine (Daniel’s Wife), Dr. Sean (Doctor), Anna (Shadow Spirit)

Onset of a snowy day 2002, a man named David killed his wife on an argument by accident before taking his daughter, 4 year old Kelly, away from home. Driving dangerously fast on a snowy road, the car slides off the road, down the mountain and crashes in the woods. Surviving, David and his daughter Kelly spotted an old, abandoned cabin in the woods and build a fire to settle down in the cabin. David, planning to kill his daughter and commit suicide, he holds a gun to Kelly’s head, suddenly there was a shadowy figure drags him away and strangle his neck to death. Kelly turns around, but cannot see what has happen due to her glasses being previously taken by her father (so to blur his gun in a plain sight from her bad eyes sight). As Kelly seated facing the fireside, crying hoping her father to come back for her, a shadowy little girl appears beside her to comfort her by being friends. A shadowy little girl introduce herself as “Anna”

One year later, a rescue party, sponsored by David’s brother Daniel, finds Anna alive, after a year of searching. Anna is send to a clinic under the care of Dr. Sean. Kelly make reference to “Anna” her friend, a little girl figure appears to protect her from any harm. When Daniel tries to communicate with her, she kept quiet, but Kelly recognizes him after he gives her a pair of glasses and she can see him properly.

After visiting Dr. Sean, Kelly, Daniel and Christine (Daniel’s wife) when back home (Daniel’s house) for Kelly to settle down after a terrible tragedy. While in bed with Daniel, Christine is startled by the appearance of a shadowy, monstrous figure in their doorway. While investigating, Daniel is attacked by “Anna” and is put into an unconscious state and was send to the nearest hospital. Christine, who has no relation to the girls and is uncomfortable being around them, finds herself left alone to care for them. Although Christine tries to make progress with Kelly, Kelly seems to distant herself from Christine. Alarmed by nightmares and Kelly's warning about Anna's jealousy, Christine tries to investigate. Earlier, Christine believes that “Anna” to be an imaginary friend of Kelly’s and she believes that she had to take on a role as a parent to care for Kelly more after what have happen.

Christine perception changes, after a whole night researching about “Anna”. Her research links to a single mother who has a daughter name Anna. Anna died, killed by her mother. It was back at 1990s; Anna’s mother caught her husband cheating in marriage. After a long arguments and violence towards each other, with anger and hatred build in Anna’s mother, she stabs her husband countless times at his back (Anna was in the scene). After a long regret of her action, Anna’s mother left the house with her daughter, to the vacation cabin that was build by Anna’s father, in the woods where Anna’s mother decided commit suicide with her daughter together. Christine was shocked after her research on Anna’s death, that she couldn’t believe the looks of Kelly and Anna’s are identical.

Next morning, Daniel regains consciousness after a disturbing vision of his dead brother David telling him to go to the cabin in the woods and save his daughter. After a few minutes Daniel woke, he hurry and call his wife to check on Kelly. While Christine is about to answer the call, a strange chill climbing on her spine, suddenly she heard a sound of glasses shatter in Kelly’s room. She quickly ran to her and found a shadowy spirit, spirit away Kelly. Christine panicky answers Daniel’s called, explained what have happened and asks her to meet him at the cabin.

Christine was the first to arrive to the cabin. She tries and attempts to communicate with Anna while searching for Kelly. After her long search for Kelly, finally she found her in the tree house on top of a tree, her flashlight stops working. She suddenly attacked by a shadowy spirit that she believes it was Anna pushing Christine down from the tree house leaving her unconscious. Christine regains consciousness and found Daniel is with her. While Christine and Daniel attempt to find Kelly, they heard Kelly’s scream outside the cabin. Running through the woods, Daniel and Christine spotted Kelly on a nearby cliff, where Anna is preparing to fall, taking Kelly along with her. When Christine tries to reason with Anna, her sudden flashback brings her happy memories with her parents. Anna stared to calm down and a sudden transform form being a monster to a light spirit human form. Anna begin to understand the situation and she learn to accept that she is not alone in the other world (a sudden light appear and Anna parent was waving to her). As Anna says her last good bye to Kelly, she walks towards the light (to reunite with her parents again). Then Anna’s body begins to shatters into hundred of butterflies. While watching the butterflies scatter, Christine and Daniel embracing Kelly, and Kelly noticing one butterfly that is different from the others, flying towards Kelly, landing on her hand, indicating memories of her. The End.




Introducing to Pinterest

Mr. Michael, introduce us to Pinterest. Pinterest is a website were you can pin interesting pictures and as well you can create your own mood board to categorize your pictures. Mr. Michael have ask us to be a member of Pinterest to create our  own mood board for our theme of our movie teaser poster as well as to keep reference.
(Caution, Pinterest is highly addictive)

(6/9/2013, Friday) In class, Mr. Michael has approve my story and ask me to proceed on creating my mood board. During class, Mr. Michael ask us to sign up to be a member of Divianart, to find high resolution pictures in the future. After that, Mr. Michael wants to test our photoshop skills by creating a simple poster than have at least a character, full background image, prop, and a caption before class ends. Below is the poster that I have design with Photoshop.

To be honest, Im not really good at Photoshop, but I'm always trying to improve and learn  new skills in Photoshop.

Concept and Theme

Referring back to Pinterest, where my theme and concept for the movie teaser poster, all started with creating my own mood board. The theme and concept of my movie teaser poster is creepy, dark, horror and lonely feel. Below is the image and link to my Mood Board in Pinterest.

Image Gathering

After settling my theme and concept for my movie teaser poster, is time for image searching. 

During the searching process, is was really tough to find images for my movie teaser poster. Websites like Deviantart, Flicker, Pinterest, Photobucket, Google Image and Stock. Xchng, really helps a lot in terms of getting high resolution images.

The Image I was looking for is a little girl (twins full body), images of a snow forest, images of creepy cabin, images of leafless trees in the forest (or maybe silhouette), creepy background, images of wood textures and some other textures. After searching high and low for suitable images, I have finally gather enough raw images to design the movie teaser poster.

Poster Design Begins

After gathering all the images, is time to design my movie teaser poster. With all this images, I have successfully design 4 different types of element use and composition.

Below are the 4 types of movie teaser poster design 

Movie Teaser Poster 1

The design of this poster is to bring out the curiosity of the audience, questioning why is the girl on the left distorted. With the dark background, people will easily know the type of genre of this movie and it also adds up the creepiness, finishing with the tag line "Want to be my Friend" Scary!

Movie Teaser Poster 2

The poster is design with a background with unclear, distorted snowy forest with leafless tress. Standing there are the twins silhouette with a creepy cabin. The snowy forest and the creepy cabin signify, where all it begins. Finishing with the tag line "Want to be my Friend" to add up the creepiness.

Movie Teaser Poster 3

This movie teaser poster design is simply an image of a snowy forest with leafless trees and the twins (on the left distorted). This design is clearly brings out the spookiness and creepiness where the side of the poster is darken to add up the mood.

 Movie Teaser Poster 4

This design is similar to the 3rd poster design. Instead of an image girl twins, it replace with a silhouette with a creepy cabin in it. Supported by the same background in the 3rd poster with lighter colour.
